Hooray for the Thinky Bits
One of the many things that we learn as we grow up (here in America at least) is Descartes’s chestnut: I think therefore I am. It delights me no end to know now that Descartes was just plain wrong on that point. (Don’t think that makes me a Locke or Hobbes fan either; the Rationalists and the Empiricists and Aristotle can all go rot, if you ask me.)
I have spent many a morning engaging in a few moments of not-thinking, and I am still here to tell my tale. The rest of the time, however, I think ad nauseam like everyone else. Thoughts are the basis of our world, not our selves: the thought is the conception of everything from skyscrapers to the decision to get up off the couch and hop onto the Wii Fit for some exercise. Our perception filters our world for us, and save for the rare bodhisattva, it cannot be any other way. This is why, I believe, we love to watch other’s lives and see how others think.
In that vein, look below to find the posts that contain my ruminations and insights:
- thinky: the category that holds all my thoughtful posts.
- about books: while I am not very good at doing book reviews, I love sharing the thoughts that get kicked up while I am reading.
- reflections: when I just have something to say, in my rambly fashion.
- working it out: sometimes questions need to be unraveled. Sometimes they only lead to more questions.
- waxing philosophic: does it need more description? Run.
The posts here are often derived from readings found in my Library, especially in the coursework for the metaphysical degree I am working toward.
